Les Bars à Vins Ecluse welcome a winemaker every month: Domaine GEORGES VERNAY in the spotlight until April 17

After Champagnes Billecart-Salmon in December and Domaines Perinet and Baudy-Dutour earlier this year, Ecluse wine bars are hosting Domaine Georges Vernay until April 17, 2019 inclusive. A favorite of the Ecluse sommelier and a desire to help people discover these estates and their wines are behind each spotlight. Domaine Georges Vernay has naturally established itself as one of the region’s finest and most prestigious estates, at the forefront of the Condrieu appellation’s revival. The estate made its mark on the history of Rhône Valley viticulture when Georges Vernay saved the Condrieu appellation by planting Viognier, the only white grape variety in the region today, at the beginning of the last century.

A benchmark in Condrieu and Côtes Rôties, the estate’s wines are produced organically and all have a unique style that can be summed up in three words: finesse, elegance and harmony.

Four of their flagship wines are on offer, depending on the mood of the moment:

Samson’s Foot 2017

Named in reference to a legend according to which the giant Samson set foot on the right bank and drank from the Rhône, leaving a footprint not far from the estate, this pretty white wine is aromatic, full-bodied and greedy, evoking white-fleshed fruits such as apricot.

Terrasses de l’Empire 2017

The archetypal Condrieu of finesse and elegance, with inimitable white peach aromas. The high-altitude vineyards give it great freshness underlined by a beautiful mineral note, a signature of the dense rocky soils.

May Flowers 2017

This cuvée, made from old Syrah vines close to the Côte-Rôties, recalls the variety of peach trees once planted on this parcel and named May Flower. A thirst-quenching wine produced in small quantities, with aromas of green pepper, black cherry and spices.

Blonde du Seigneur 2016

Lovers of Côte Rôtie will be delighted by this fine cuvée, composed of 5% Viognier, and its powerful character, with floral notes. An aromatic wine, very elaborate, more complex with a beautiful roundness.

L’Ecluse has selected the finest Lyonnais products, in collaboration with Maison Bobosse, to accompany a perfect wine and food pairing.

Each month, a winegrower is honored and will come to meet customers at L’Ecluse Saint-Honoré on the third Thursday of the month:

Maison Bonnard from April 18 to May 15, 2019

In the heart of the Bugey region, this vineyard nestled between Savoie, Jura and the Rhône Valley

has been growing the region’s grape varieties for 30 years, in particular Mondeuse,

a little-known grape variety that deserves to be discovered.

Domaine Massaya from May 16 to June 19, 2019

The highest estate in the northern hemisphere, culminating at an altitude of 1000m, and its fresh wines, produced with the complicity of Frédéric and Daniel Brunier, is a nugget to be discovered.
