Luxury jewelry: haute joaillerie, Place Vendôme and savoir-faire

The Place Vendôme in Paris is home to the highest density of jewelry houses in the world: Boucheron (number 26), Van Cleef & Arpels (number 22), Chanel (number 18), Dior (number 8), Cartier (numbers 13 and 23). Haute joaillerie refers to unique creations or very small series, handcrafted by specialized artisans, using top-quality stones and demanding setting techniques. In France, the “Joaillier de France” label distinguishes Jewelry Houses whose production remains localized in France.

Haute joaillerie: techniques and know-how

Invisible setting – stones set without visible claws, a technique patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933. Serti grains – multiple small metal grains hold the stone in place, creating a dense pavé effect. Champlevé enamel – cavities cut into the metal, filled with enamel and then fired. Stone cut – brilliant, emerald, cushion, pear, marquise, oval – each cut reveals the optical properties of the stone in a different way.
