EXPLORATOLOGY, A BOX TO CONSIDER

In 2013, Marjorie Nguyen created an innovative concept, Exploratology. It consists of a monthly box containing a meticulously chosen book, unusual postcards, tea and sweets. Interested in atypical books, those that escape fashion and are not ‘classics’, she wanted to share them. In each mailing, a description of the book explains why she fell in love with it. She emphasizes the notion of discovery and travel. In fact, each month the reader is immersed in a different universe, one not chosen by him or her. This introduces them to other authors and styles, and fosters a certain intellectual curiosity.

A specific theme is proposed each month. Each item in the box refers to it. The Princess, her 5 husbands, the war and the gods, highlights the Palace of Illusions written by Chitra Banerjee DivaKaruni.

This Indian writer’s novel is reminiscent of the chimerical world of tales and legends. Four tea bags (Or Tea, Pukka, Higher Living) and sweets complete the experience. Polar, Whisky and Booze offers introspection in The Last Kiss, transcribing the world of James Crumley.

The author directs C. W. Sughrue, the grumpy private detective, and his favorite animal, a beer-loving bulldog. English tea and Barnier sweets are a promise for the taste buds.

The result is relevant! Subscribers and occasional readers become ‘addicts’. A blog facilitates the exchange of ideas, and the enthusiasm generates the creation of a literary club! The club, online since April 2016, already has over 70 members. For sure, get and take a book!
