The vineyards of Bordeaux are a land of legends, but some stories are more deeply rooted than others. Such is the case of Château Lafon-Rochet, one of the jewels of Saint-Estèphe, whose origins date back to the 16th century.
An exceptional terroir: the essence of Lafon-Rochet
Spreading majestically over 45 hectares, the Château Lafon-Rochet estate is unique. Its two hilltops, one gravelly, the other clayey, combined with the diversity of the gravels and the excellent natural drainage, make this terroir a nugget for viticulture. This singularity is reinforced by the presence of blue clays, giving Lafon-Rochet its exceptional character.
Grape varieties: A symphony of flavours
The estate’s grape varieties are typical of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon at 48%, followed by Merlot (45%), Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc (each at 3.5%), the vineyard also benefits from the mature age of its vines, with an average age of 38 years.
Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet 2019: A Sensory Voyage
This wine is the expression of a unique know-how, combining the youth of the vines with the expertise of the estate. Its name, evocative of pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, evokes a journey. The chapel linking the château to the vineyard is a reminder of this heritage. 2019, marked by its climatic contrasts, produces a supple, fresh wine, rich in ripe fruit, balanced and unctuous.
History: A Legacy, A Legend
The history of Château Lafon-Rochet is that of an estate that has stood the test of time. From the marriage of Etienne de Lafon to the estate’s heiress in the 17th century, to the purchase by Guy Tesseron in 1960, followed by his descendants Michel and then Basile, each generation has left its mark on the estate. The entry into the conversion phase to organic farming in 2020 and the acquisition by Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti in 2021 attest to this perpetual quest for excellence.
2022: A New Dawn for Lafon-Rochet
With the arrival of Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti, Château Lafon-Rochet enters a new chapter in its history, under the direction of Christophe Congé, working closely with Emmanuel Cruse. The future looks bright for this historic Médoc estate.
Château Lafon-Rochet, with its 2019 vintage and rich history, continues to fascinate. At €25 incl. tax, “Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet 2019” is an invitation to discover or rediscover this illustrious Saint-Estèphe estate.
