Jaguar unveiled the Type 01 in New York on 6 October 2026. Orders will open in early 2027, with first deliveries expected in the second half of the year. Until then, the brand has shown a silhouette, declared figures and very few measurements.
The Type 01 is a four-door GT, the first production model built on the Jaguar Electric Architecture, a dedicated platform. Jaguar says it was designed, developed and built in the United Kingdom, and presents it as its most powerful and most aerodynamic road car. Low roofline, long bonnet: the brand claims a lineage with the E-type and the XJS.
The announced figures are more than 1,000 PS of power, an 850-volt electrical architecture, a range of 400 miles on the US EPA cycle, and 200 miles regained in thirteen minutes on a 350 kW charger. Missing are the battery capacity, the weight, the drag coefficient, the performance figures and the range on the European cycle. “The most aerodynamic” therefore remains a claim without data. The absence of proof does not allow us to say it is false, only that it is not established.
The name is the most legible stance. According to Jaguar, “Type” refers to the historic models, “0” to zero tailpipe emissions, “1” to the first of a new generation. The brand marks the break by placing it in a lineage.
The presentation took place at STORIED, in West Chelsea, after digital displays in Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side. Jaguar announced Florence Pugh there as the first ambassador of its new era. Three objects were on show: the designers’ initial line, reproduced in aluminium and suspended from the ceiling; the “Impossible Panel”, meant to represent the obstinacy of producing the bodywork; tyre tracks taken from a test track, presented as evidence of hundreds of thousands of kilometres driven. Only the panel touches on manufacturing, and the brand says nothing more about it.
In the press release, Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s chief executive, states that the Type 01 distils the essence of the brand, with no compromise between design and engineering. This is Jaguar’s official position on its own car.
Prices start at £130,000.
Jaguar has therefore shown a car and a story, not yet a measurable product. Judgement will wait for deliveries, independent measurements (range in European conditions, weight, fast-charging endurance) and confirmation of the announced price.
