Vhernier Trottola: black jet sets the spinning top turning

A spinning top stands upright because it spins. Vhernier built the Trottola collection, launched in 2003, on this paradox: its sculptural volume seeks to keep the tension of an object in rotation, always on the point of setting off again. Nothing dominates: the design is asymmetrical, the lines are pure, the curves precise, the surface soft to the touch. One looks at this jewel less than one takes it in hand.

The new variant leaves the shape untouched. It shifts the contrasts. Polished rose gold meets jet, a deep black, in a smooth and continuous surface, with no edge on which the eye comes to rest. A second version adds diamonds. The most spectacular pairs the jet with a diamond pavé, and the house sees it as a technical feat. The whole exists in rose gold or white gold, with or without white diamonds.

The most interesting point is the way these pieces are worn. The ring, tilted as Vhernier tradition has it, develops vertically. Its dimensions invite everyday wear and the stacking of several jewels on a single finger, which gives the precious a certain nonchalance. On the bracelet and the necklace, an invisible clasp lets the line run on uninterrupted. The ear clips rest on a screw-on post: the two elements detach, and each can be worn as a stud or a drop.

Taking up a collection rather than abandoning it is a rare gesture in a sector that lives on novelty. Vhernier lets a form from 2003 welcome materials and uses it had not foreseen, and this is proof that it was drawn firmly enough to bear being played again.
