On Friday 2 October, in the middle of Paris fashion week, Donna Karan New York gathered its circle in Saint-Germain-des-Prés around Mert Alas. The House named two garments from the evening with precision, a new velvet piece and a dress from 1997.
The dinner was held at Sugaar. Guests met for cocktails, then went upstairs for a seated dinner. Donna Karan New York and Mert Alas were the hosts, and the House was celebrating Mert Alas as its Creative Collaborator for the season.
Carla Bruni, singer, songwriter, model and former First Lady of France, gave an acoustic set, presented as a surprise. She wore a Black Cherry velvet suit: the single-button blazer and the straight mid-rise trousers, two of the House’s designs. According to Donna Karan New York, she is a long-standing friend of Mert Alas and has close ties with the House.
The evening continued with an after-party, with Parisian DJ Ines Supra at the decks. She wore an archive Donna Karan dress dated fall 1997, paired with the faux-fur wristlet clutch Lawrence with a chain handle from the House and a gold chain necklace. A garment almost three decades old and an accessory from the current catalogue thus ended up on the same person.
Ten names are cited among the guests wearing Donna Karan: Carla Bruni, Adriana Lima, Honey Dijon, Soo Joo Park, Cindy Bruna, Karen Elson, Grace Elizabeth, Nora Attal, Inés Rau and Sonny Hall. Other attendees include Anja Rubik, Daphne Guinness, Jordan Barrett and Tish Weinstock. The images are credited to Saskia Lawaks.
Among all the clothes worn that evening, the House named two with catalogue precision: a velvet piece from the season on the singer, and a 1997 dress on the turntables.
