The architecture of the body and the art of transformation in the Katerin Theys collection

Belgian interior architect and fashion designer Katerin Theys presented her creations in Paris for the first time, bringing together fashion, art, music and design during Fashion Week. The presentation took place in the historic residence of the Belgian ambassador to France, transformed for the occasion into a space for artistic experimentation and dialogue between disciplines. Moving away from the traditional runway show, the designer conceived an immersive installation in which silhouettes interacted with objects, materials, music and live artistic interventions.

At the heart of this presentation was Sketchbook, her spring-summer 2027 collection, which illustrates her distinctive conception of clothing as an “architecture for the body”. Coats with architectural lines, reversible pieces and transformable caftans reflect her interest in the modularity of silhouettes and the multiple interpretations of form. Each creation offers different ways to wear the garment, allowing its proportions and appearance to be changed according to the wishes of the person wearing it.

A separate installation showcased a coat from the Winter Garden collection in six styling variations. Its print draws on Katerin Theys’s personal memories, evoking her grandmother’s garden and translating nostalgia and attachment to a place into a distinctive textile motif. Music extended this experience with a performance by Belgian singer Selah Sue, who performed her compositions wearing three of the designer’s creations. Artist Nicky Myny also gave a live demonstration of their creative process, highlighting the links between fashion and contemporary art.

The collaboration with Danish textile company Kvadrat revealed another facet of Theys’s work, informed by her training in interior architecture and her exploration of materials. Independently of seasonal trends, the designer prioritises durability, adaptability and individuality, producing her pieces in small runs, sometimes even as one-of-a-kind creations.
