FIERY PATCHOULI
ORIENTAL ABSOLUTES
THE EMOTION OF THE FINEST RAW MATERIALS
Patchouli and rose sublimate each other: together with the emblematic flower of oriental perfumery, they form a sensual, captivating duo.
Its deepest woody accents then stretch into a leathery, musky accord, forming an intense, majestic trail.

A COLLECTION LIKE A JOURNEY, IN SEARCH OF THE FINEST ORIENTAL RAW MATERIALS.
A tribute to the olfactory treasures of the Orient, the collection initiated in 2014 by Santal Royal continues its journey, guided by the emotion of the most beautiful raw materials. At the meeting of here and elsewhere, ancestral traditions and modern writing, the Guerlain perfumer submits his know-how and timeless signature to the olfactory treasures of the original lands of perfumery.
A NEW SENSORY JOURNEY IMAGINED BY A PASSIONATE PERFUMER-EXPLORER.
This new creation is a singular ode to patchouli, a noble ingredient whose sensual wisps have transcended the borders of the Orient to conquer the world. The eponymous star of Patchouli Ardent,
meets Guerlain’s inimitable signature in an intense, luminous trail that intoxicates the senses.
Native to Southeast Asia, patchouli was introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Its leaves, which give off a powerful, faceted woody scent when dried, were used to make potpourri, or to protect fabrics from the Orient during transport to the Old Continent. Synonymous with exoticism, a gateway to the Orient and its mysteries, patchouli has been a symbol of extreme refinement down the ages, a hallmark of the hippie generation, and an essential ingredient in modern perfumery, giving both men’s and women’s compositions incomparable depth and sensuality. At Guerlain, it is found in the richly woody signature of Héritage, where it supports the aromatic notes, and in the legendary chypre trail of Mitsouko.
PATCHOULI ARDENT: SPOTLIGHT ON PATCHOULI
Composed by Guerlain perfumer Thierry Wasser, Patchouli Ardent offers a singular vision of this raw material, going against the dark woody register traditionally associated with it.
At the heart of this fragrance, patchouli radiates its most luminous facets. This woody-floral fragrance reveals its complexity over the course of hours, settling on the skin with spicy notes of fiery pink berries and intense black pepper, softened by a green, subtly fruity note of fig. In the heart, patchouli and rose sublimate each other: together with the emblematic flower of oriental perfumery, they form a sensual, captivating duo. Its deepest woody accents then stretch into a leathery, musky accord, forming an intense, majestic trail.
For the first time, Guerlain’s iconic bottle, inspired by the 1853 Abeille flacon, is finished in an intense blue lacquer. A sumptuous hue that orchestrates an elegant contrast with the bottle’s gold details: its perfectly round cap, its ribbon of passementerie and its label, whose arabesques are drawn from the House’s heritage.
