In the Grand Bal line, the mechanism does not hide at the back of the case. Dior places it at the front: the front-mounted oscillating weight, the collection’s signature for fifteen years, becomes a full element of composition. With the new Muguet and Muguet Fleuri variations, this architecture receives a mother-of-pearl and diamond decoration inspired by lily of the valley.
Four creations thus extend the collection. The choice is consistent with the language of Grand Bal: approaching watchmaking through a couture eye, where movement is also a matter of drape, volume and appearance.
A mechanism that becomes a motif
The front oscillating weight does not play a merely decorative role here. It is the visual starting point of the watch, around which the mother-of-pearl, the stones and the floral motif unfold. This arrangement reverses the usual relationship between the inside of the mechanism and the visible surface: what animates the object directly participates in its identity.
The Muguet and Muguet Fleuri versions follow Dior’s codes without trying to illustrate them literally. The flower serves above all to organise a vocabulary of lightness and preciousness. The result lies on the border between the jewellery watch and the mechanical object, without either dimension erasing the other.
Couture as a watchmaking angle
Since its creation, Grand Bal has asserted a singular idea: a watch can carry a construction inspired by the ball gown while embracing its movement. This continuity explains why the collection favours staging the mechanism rather than the mere accumulation of gem-setting.
These new pieces do not add an autonomous chapter to Dior watchmaking; they refine a grammar already in place. The Maison Dior thus continues, with lily of the valley, a body of work in which mechanical function itself becomes a sign of style.
