290 YEARS AGO, CHAMPAGNE WAS BORN!
Once upon a time, a young King of France complained that he had no Champagne when he visited his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour. 290 years later, his decision still resonates as a major act that fundamentally changed cultural habits the world over. As nobility dictates, the Maison de Champagne de Venoge will celebrate this event with a toast to the creator of Champagne, King Louis XV.
It all began on May 25, 1728: in an unprecedented decree, Louis XV authorized the marketing and bottling of Champagne wines. Champagne was born. 290 years later, Champagne is more than ever a wine apart, unique, legendary, wonderful. A myth that for 3 centuries has never aged, and remains synonymous with the great French Art de Vivre, while being resolutely modern and in tune with the times.
Faithful to the original spirit of Champagne and its unique character, Champagne de Venoge has never ceased to carry on the work of the Great King. Its iconic “Louis XV” cuvée, made exclusively with Grands Crus from the finest vintages, represents the quintessence of the House’s savoir-faire. On May 25, the Maison de Champagne de Venoge mansion on Epernay’s prestigious Avenue de Champagne will pay tribute to the king to whom Champagne owes so much!
