For the new Woody Wagon Cologne Collection, Louis Vuitton and California-based artist Alex Israel are continuing their seven-year collaboration with a sculptural piece produced in a limited edition of 66, crafted by 60 artisans over more than 7,000 hours.

A California road trip turned collector’s item

“I’m very excited to continue exploring my favorite landscape—Los Angeles—on this road trip alongside Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and Louis Vuitton. The Woody Wagon has always embodied a certain Californian freedom: a surfboard on the roof, the family in the back of the car, and the Pacific Ocean just around the next hill. Here, the six Cologne fragrances make up the family,” explains Alex Israel, an iconic figure in California’s contemporary art scene who has been collaborating with the House since 2019.

The Woody Wagon—a vehicle recognizable by its wooden panels that has long held a unique place in the legend of the American West Coast—is transformed here into a miniature sculptural object, reinterpreted with the brand’s expertise — a display that showcases the collection as a metaphor for the Californian landscape rather than simply as luxury packaging.

219 handcrafted elements

Produced in a limited run of 66 pieces—a nod to the legendary Route 66—this miniature creation required the collaboration of 60 artisans and more than 7,000 hours of work. Every detail has been meticulously crafted: the roof and doors are engraved with the Monogram motif in wood, the wheels are adorned with Monogram flowers, and each of the 219 components has been shaped and assembled by hand. This level of artisanal craftsmanship—disproportionate to the object’s function as a simple bottle display—places it firmly in the realm of a collector’s item rather than a commercial accessory.

The six Cologne fragrances featured in this miniature vehicle were created by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud as a series of sensory stops, each capturing a different facet of the West Coast in an ode to California’s spirit of freedom.

Travel cases as windows onto California

To further celebrate the art of travel so dear to the House, Louis Vuitton is also unveiling a series of reimagined cases for three iconic colognes: Sun Song, California Dream, and Afternoon Swim. Crafted from translucent resin, these cases feature a gradient of vibrant colors—from bright yellow to incandescent orange for Sun Song, transparent pink to sky blue for California Dream, azure blue to deep blue for Afternoon Swim—where the Monogram pattern, delicately applied across the entire surface, leaves its timeless signature through a translucent effect that enhances each fragrance.

Each of these three cases is available in a limited edition of 100 pieces, a variation that extends the collection’s visual universe beyond the central object alone without diminishing its rarity.

A rarity reflected even in the price

The Woody Wagon Cologne Collection is available for 9,000 euros by special order, in a limited edition of 66 pieces available starting July 2, 2026, with delivery scheduled for late September. Each travel case retails for 950 euros, also in a limited edition of 100 pieces available starting July 2. This pricing strategy—positioned as a collector’s item rather than a traditional fragrance product—builds on the approach already established by previous collaborations between the House and the artist since 2019.

Seven years of a collaboration that pushes the boundaries of fragrance

Since 2019, Alex Israel and Louis Vuitton have been building, collection after collection, a shared vocabulary in which California contemporary art infuses the world of fine perfumery rather than merely serving as decoration for the packaging. This continuity sets the collaboration apart from one-off partnerships between luxury houses and artists, where a single collection is often enough to exhaust the creative dialogue: here, each new Cologne collection delves deeper into the same mental landscape—that of Los Angeles as seen by Alex Israel—without ever repeating itself in its execution.

The choice of the Woody Wagon as the central focus of this edition is no accident: this vehicle, long associated with the surf and beach culture of the American West Coast, embodies a specific kind of nostalgia that the artist claims as his own raw material. By transforming it into a miniature case for six fragrances, Louis Vuitton turns the object itself into a narrative, where the container tells as much of the story as the contents.

Woody Wagon Cologne Collection: limited edition of 66 pieces, 60 artisans, over 7,000 hours of work, 219 hand-assembled components. Price: 9,000 euros (miniature vehicle with 6 cologne fragrances), 950 euros per travel case (limited edition of 100 pieces). Available for order starting July 2, 2026; delivery in late September.

By devoting more than 7,000 hours of craftsmanship to an object that is neither a bottle nor a piece of furniture but rather a display sculpture, Louis Vuitton and Alex Israel raise a question that goes beyond perfume alone: To what extent can Haute Parfumerie borrow the codes of a work of art without ceasing to be a functional object?
