HM3 Poison Dart Frog is a limited edition of 10 pieces inspired by the spectacular yellow-spotted killer frog.
The deadly potential of this rainforest frog is camouflaged by its exotic black and yellow skin. Just as the high-tech zirconium case of the Poison Dart Frog is concealed beneath a glossy layer of black PVD. It offers a striking contrast with the animated rotor – framed by an oversized date wheel – on the upper part of the complication designed by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht.
The protruding eyes of the real amphibious frog enable it to see in many directions without having to move its head. The domed hour and minute domes of the HM3 Poison Dart Frog create the same effect, allowing the wearer to easily read the time from many angles without having to turn the wrist.
The hour and minute domes are made of solid aluminum, a material chosen for its optimal strength-to-weight ratio. Weighing just 0.5 grams, the domes are machined on the outside first, then hollowed out to produce a paper-thin wall that is no more than 0.28 mm thick, reducing energy requirements to an absolute minimum.
These two domes are protected by semi-spherical sapphire domes, which had to be shaped and polished with extreme precision, as the slightest imperfection in the sapphire can cause an undesirable magnification effect.
The HM3 Poison Dart Frog presents the time in a playful way, but there’s nothing more serious than the meticulous hand finishing of the high-precision movement that purrs inside.
