Counting days, finding one’s way through the months, marking beginnings and endings, having a grip on time: these are all elements that a calendar must fulfill. If every human being responds to his own calendar, the vine has its own. From pruning to harvesting, the vineyard landscape is transformed, giving new hues to the spaces, characteristic of the seasons.
An ode to artisanal knowledge and the French art of living, Hubert le Gall illustrates each month with a glass creation, evoking the spectres of light offered by grapes. A Lyonnais artist, he began his career by creating furniture that was more than just functional, it was poetic. It is in this search for harmony between nature and man that the artist creates works and stories. This time, it’s Ruinart’s story he’s telling.
The creation of a noble champagne is the culmination of knowledge of nature, and requires a mastery of grape varieties. Ruinart has been doing this for three centuries, working as close to nature as possible. Its cuvées are dominated by classic Chardonnays. However, the company does not rest on its laurels, and is constantly exploring new fields. Art, a medium in constant motion, is the new land to tame. Participating in the world’s leading art fairs, Ruinart regularly invites artists to share their visions of the Ruinart universe.
To illustrate the house’s refinement, Hubert le Gall turned to glass. Renowned for its collaborations with the greatest contemporary artists, the Berengo workshop and its master glassmakers have made a name for themselves. Together, they created a series of sculptures embodying the evolution of the vine: from harvest to blossom. Colorful, luminous, the Ruinart house can be read through elegant, brilliant pieces. Each evokes a story, a particular moment in the special relationship that the attentive winemaker develops with nature to create exceptional cuvées, which, unlike the calendar we tear off the wall at the end of the year, are timeless.
Know-how, a balance between innovation and tradition: this is the challenge taken up by this calendar. It’s more than just a marker in the passage of time. It orchestrates the movements and negotiations between nature and man, and celebrates their union for the best: the production of champagne of unrivalled renown.
