Champagne “Les Opposés” by Maison Romain Tribaut

Champagne house Romain Tribaut offers 2 cuvées with very different looks and tastes. The concept is the opposition of 2 grape varieties: Chardonnay and Meunier. Conceived in 2015 by its eponymous founder Romain Tribaut, the Champagne house wanted to create 2 very distinct and complementary offerings to satisfy all tastes. These are 2 champagnes produced differently for a visually contrasting finale (see tasting comments on the enclosed product sheets). Why Les Opposés? Because it’s the differentiation between 2 single-varietal blends from a selection of plots and villages in 2 very distinct geographical areas: the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. The initial idea was to give pride of place to Meunier, a grape variety long used for blended Champagnes made from three Champenois grape varieties (Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay), and thus to create a contrast between the black grape “Meunier” and the white grape “Chardonnay”, then by their cru scale of Brut Vallée de Marne and Grand Cru Côte des Blancs. “The first cuvées from the 2015 and 2016 harvests were available for sale at the end of 2019. The approach of the end of the sanitary crisis offers us the opportunity to relaunch sales and thus formalize the launch of our cuvées” R.Tribaut. In 2021, the 2 cuvées received Bronze and Silver awards from the Decanter World Wine Awards.

The Champagne is available in 75cl bottles at 26.90€ttc for the Pur Meunier Brut and 32€ttc for the Chardonnay Grand Cru. Each bottle also comes with its own case featuring the colors of the house and the cuvée. It is available for sale on the brand’s website: champagneromaintribaut.com and at Metro for professionals and restaurateurs.
