This 22AH collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week, marks a new beginning for Songzio and is Jay Songzio’s first official international collection. The collection also features Korean actor Kim youngdae, the brand’s new ambassador.
Entitled “Metamorphoses” after Ovid’s poem, this collection seeks to capture the primal metamorphosis of a character in the moonlight. Songzio’s protagonist, the “misanthrope”, is a man of austere appearance but poetic sensibility, who travels through the violent, dark rocks protected by the blue light of the moon. As he traverses the spectral valley of silence and echo, darkness and light, anxiety and beauty, he reveals and transforms himself.
Songzio presents a collection of contrasting aesthetics: Eastern yet Western, rugged yet elegant, angular yet rounded, dark yet colorful. With the notion of metamorphosis at the forefront, this season’s pieces are transformative, playing with layering and a multitude of textures.
This season’s star piece is the“Meta Jacket“, a three-layer jacket with vest and inner lining, which can be transformed in a variety of ways thanks to technical details, enabling new combinations with other garments. This jacket is worn with the “Meta Trouser“, a pair of cocoon-shaped, double-layer wide-leg pants.
The collection begins with Songzio’s signature color, vermilion, and is otherwise dominated by black. As the collection progresses, bright colors of yellow, orange and pink are revealed, representing the metamorphosis of the collection’s protagonist, a man with an austere exterior but artistic sensibility. Finally, the collection ends with this season’s signature color, gray, perhaps the final form after the metamorphosis, representing light coexisting with darkness.
This collection is characterized by the extensive use of multi-textured fabrics: the brand’s signature handmade “crackle” fabric with metal inner lining, light to heavy buckles, metallic vinyl, technical satin, tafta, fine and heavy cotton and wool gabardine. These very different fabrics are brought together by asymmetrical patchworks and superimpositions. Songzio’s signature embroideries, symbolizing paint strokes on garments, are omnipresent in the collection. The brand’s handmade details, such as hand-folded buttons, leather patchworks and cotton strips with metallic studs, further enrich the collection.
