Comics Selection
Today, superheroes are everywhere, thanks in no small part to film adaptations.

If you’re a fan, or just want to get back to the source, here’s a selection of the best comics of the moment, with some great, great stuff this month.

First, with the first adventure of the new JLA, which includes Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. First encounters, but also first confrontations with a mysterious and formidable enemy, Darkseid. A convincing and intelligent saga, orchestrated by the star duo Johns-Lee and available in bookshops in the “Renaissance” collection, as well as episode by episode each month in the monthly “DC Saga”.

In parallel, you can also discover the JLA’s famous and unexpected battle against the Predators, published in 2001 in the USA, in the “Soleil US Comics” collection.

On the Marvel side, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Wolverine and Captain America join forces at Nick Fury’s request to overthrow the government of Latveria, accused of funding supervillains who are planning attacks on the USA. For the first time, the “Secret War” saga, originally published in 2004 and 2005 and aimed more at adults, is published in its entirety (“Marvel Select” collection). Far from being old-fashioned, it will keep you glued to your armchair thanks to its mix of action, espionage and reflections on our society. The Bendis-Dell’Otto duo have really pulled it off.

In addition, the Marvel Deluxe collection features “A New Day”, 13 episodes signed by a host of talented artists, bringing Peter Parker back to life as a bachelor following his agreement with Mephisto. Last but not least, Wolverine fans will be delighted to (re)read several of his famous adventures in the “Best Comics” collection, featuring some terrific art by Ian Churchill. For adults!

The DVD release of “Avengers” (“Disney”) is, of course, a big hit. Directed by the creator of the “Buffy” series, Joss Whedon, the film succeeds in offering incredible action scenes without neglecting the psychology of the characters. A real feat. We’re already waiting for the sequel…
