To coincide with the close of the French supermarket wine fairs, and the day after the announcement of the ranking of wine production volumes by country, Bonial(www.bonial.fr), the leading marketplace for digital catalogs on the web and cell phones, presents a dynamic infographic in real time to discover the figures for wine sales and consumption in France by region. Do the French prefer red, white, rosé or sparkling wines? How much wine do they consume on average each year? How much do they spend on average on wine? Click on the link below the graph to find out.

CONSUMPTION PATTERNS AND SPENDING IN FRANCE BY REGION

As part of its business, mass retailing is a key focus for Bonial. An information portal and buying guide, Bonial.fr looks at the various figures for wine consumption and sales on a national and regional scale.Volume/capita and price
While the inhabitants of Ile-de-France pay a higher price(€5.07/l) for the blood of the earth than the average, the average volume per inhabitant is the lowest in the whole of France(10.24l/capita). Conversely, residents of the Pays de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes regions(21.60l/capita) consume more wine than the rest of France, and pay an average of just €3.7 per liter.White, red or rosé
In this respect, particular attention should be paid to the Mediterranean region, where consumption patterns differ markedly from other French regions. Here, red wine consumption is much lower( only44% vs. 53% for the national average), and rosé is particularly popular(43% vs. 30% for the national average). Residents of northern and eastern France drink more white wine than others(20% vs. 17%national average).

Sparkling Wines
Logic would dictate that Eastern France, the region that produces Champagne and Crémant d’Alsace, should be the largest consumer of sparkling wines. However, this is not the case. The inhabitants of northern France turn out to be the biggest consumers of sparkling wines, with 33,376,000 bottles sold in 2014.
