“Dom Pérignon Rosé 2005 is part of the great history of Dom Pérignon Rosé champagne. Dom Pérignon’s time is not regular, and Rosé, like White, reinvents itself vintage after vintage”, Richard Geoffroy Chef de Cave Dom Pérignon.
Dom Pérignon Rosé’s commitment is to reveal the red part of its Pinot Noir. To do this, we have to push the envelope and go to the frontiers of Dom Pérignon territory. Blending is the only way to go that far, bringing together the red of Pinot Noir and the character of Dom Pérignon. This is the paradox of Dom Pérignon Rosé, to the point of contradiction.
In 1959 the first Rosé vintage: the birth certificate of another face of Dom Pérignon champagne; an even bolder creation where Pinot Noir shines and challenges the balance of Dom Pérignon. In 1986, Rosé established itself as the best way to express the year and Dom Pérignon’s balance: for the first time, only the Dom Pérignon Rosé vintage was declared!
2000 marked an evolution in the history of Dom Pérignon Rosé: the cellar master’s determination to push the wine’s envelope even further. This marked the start of a major project in the vineyard and winery, focusing on grape ripeness and maceration, which resulted in a stronger, more committed identity for the Pinot Noir red wines.
Dom Pérignon Rosé 2002, 2003, 2004, now 2005 and the vintages to follow are all steps towards a more singular Dom Pérignon Rosé, redder than ever. To express all the facets of Pinot Noir, Dom Pérignon explores Champagne’s greatest terroirs. On the southern slopes, the Pinot Noir’s early ripening expresses itself through power in Aÿ and elegance in Hautvillers. In the cooler climate of Bouzy, its fruit vibrates in a fragile balance that’s hard to capture. To pay tribute to it, whatever the terroir, we need to find the perfect picking window, the one that will give us the color and fruit we want, without excessive tannins.
The commitment to Pinot Noir continues during vinification: Pinot Noir is vinified like a red wine, with no bleeding or skin maceration. Blending gives you the freedom to choose your wines, and the time to plan, experiment and create. The red of pinot noir joins the game of complements and opposites of white and black. It knows no limits: it reflects the journey of an entire season in a specific cru. The balance of the blend must be shifted, following the new contours of the wine where Chardonnay pays tribute to the glory of Pinot Noir. The 10 years of maturation in cellars on the lees protect the red of Pinot Noir to finally reveal it: enthusiastic, unpredictable, mysterious… “the paradox of Pinot Noir”.
