Founded in 1796 and located in the mountainous Aragua Valley, the Hacienda is more than just a house. It has withstood wars, revolutions, invasions and even dictators. There’s always been sugar cane, and since 1830, there’s always been rum. Hacienda Santa Teresa represents success, no matter what life throws at you.

The company’s history began in 1796, when Hacienda Santa Teresa was founded. Coffee, cocoa and sugar cane were grown, the main raw materials for rum.

In 1830, a young German merchant, Gustav Julius Vollmer, arrived in Venezuela, met a revolutionary woman named Panchita Rivas and the two finally married in 1830. The Vollmer family was born: their descendants now run Santa Teresa.

Aged using the traditional Solera method, generally reserved for sherry production, each bottle of SANTA TERESA 1976 contains a few drops from the very first cask dating back to 1796, which has never been emptied. With its fruity, woody aroma and notes of walnut, leather, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate, prunes and a hint of honey and pepper, SANTA TERESA 1796 will surprise any rum lover this Father’s Day.

Available from Nicolas, €64.90 a bottle.
