Notes d’Encre
As part of the “Tatoueurs,Tatoués” exhibition, the“Hey! la Cie ” company presents the epic story of tattooing, from the 15th century to the present day, in 7 shows. To be discovered from May 31, 2014 to March 7, 2015, “Notes d’Encre” is a cabinet of musical and graphic curiosities that awakens the imagination.
Hey! Cie
“Hey! La Cie of the art magazine Hey! modern art & pop culture created by Anne & Julien – curators of the tattoo exhibition at Quai Branly. Mn 7 chapters, they present the key moments that have shaped tattooing into its current form.
Sounded by gramophones, the shows offer a succession of astonishing visual and graphic tableaux, combining performances, projected images, live drawings and barrel organ creations.
Seven representations enthrone the fabulous epic of tattooing:
- Chapter I: Adventure gets tattooed: “Because the great explorers discovered the islands and their tattoo cultures, some Europeans returned home fully tattooed…”
- Chapter II: Les îles retrouvées:” The epic of traditional tattooing, its disappearance, then its rebirth.”
- Chapter III: On stage! “The golden age of sideshow, when the big tattooed man became popular on the boards.”
- Chapter IV: Fatalitas: “From the streets to the penal colony, tattooing spreads”.
- Chapter V: In port: “Ports are where tattoo artists find their most important clientele: sailors”.
- Chapter VI – Kingly motifs: “An overview of iconic tattoo motifs”.
- Chapter VII: Global Tattoo: “An imaginary journey through the modern history of global tattooing.”
