In 2015, Hernan Parra, master blender at The Dictador, a high-end Colombian rum house, came up with an innovative project: to partner with prestigious wine & spirits houses around the world to develop a unique collection of rums.
Selected and invited by Parra, he challenged them to finish The Dictador’s finest Colombian rum of at least 40 years of age. The challenge was accepted, and the “2 Masters” collection was born.
Today, after 8 exceptional collaborations with houses such as Hardy cognacs, Leclerc Briant champagne and Château d’Arche sauternes, The Dictador presents its latest edition with Hungarian winery Royal Tokaji. Prized for its wines made from first and second growth grapes, Royal Tokaji is today one of Tokaj’s most emblematic wineries, founded by renowned author and wine expert Hugh Johnson.
For this collaboration, Hernan Parra sent 10 casks of his 1977 vintage rum to the Royal Tokaji estate in Hungary, where it was aged for seven months in their 13th-century cellars, in 14-year-old Zemplén oak casks that had held Royal Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos 2016, and 6 different Aszú vintages for 12 years.
