The Hype according to :

ROMAIN SYBILLIN – SHOWCASE

A universe of people who think they are at the forefront of everything, a closed circle of pretentious and talentless people, the hype is everything that creative and talented people have thrown into the gutter.

MATTIAS MIMOUN – PIANIST – DJ – SCENARIO ROCK – REMIX/COVER JUSTICE

The term “hip” has now replaced the word “hype”. Belonging to the world of hipsters implies always being on the lookout for the right information before anyone else: the release of an album, the broadcasting of a new video, the sale of a limited edition product… Being trendy also means being invited to all the parties, benefiting from the widest social networks or wearing the most exclusive clothes. In Paris, the trendiness is a real small world where everyone knows more or less who is who and who does what. This facilitates the completion of projects and relevant professional meetings. This phenomenon is amplified with the arrival of Facebook. It’s a world that many people want to be in: it’s sure nice to get free shoes from NIKE, free clothes from DIESEL, to never pay for a nightclub ticket, to drink at the expense of ABSOLUT… and it attracts a lot of losers who often have only their opportunism as their only talent Anyway, every city has its little group of “hipsters”, right? This is not unique to Paris.

PIERRE MATHIEU – MAKE THE GIRL DANCE – TV PRESENTER

The real hype is made up of a hundred people you never see at parties. They watch you dance through the untinted mirrors and decide among themselves what they will do with you.

For me the hype is champagne and vuitton bags, it’s red lipstick and long nails, it’s going out on sunday night and not on saturday, it’s taking the cab and not the subway, it’s regine the chacha and co, the hype is not me but I love and honestly I hate the hype girls, their long legs and their makeup that lasts all evening, I love the hype guys with hats … one day I’ll be hype .. or not

DAVID LAVAYSSE – I&FUSED – THE SHOPPINGS – COLLABORATION RINOCEROSE

Of course it exists. Since we are talking about it. Then I believe that everyone has his own conception of it according to his environment and his social status. For some it will be enough to wear a fashionable t-shirt (another vague concept) to feel at the heart of the hype, for others it will be necessary to sniff miles of coke in hyper select backstages or to have its head in good place in a trendy magazine. As the term is not French, I think that here we have all the more tendency to want to make it mean everything and its opposite. So who’s hype in the end? the hipsters? The bourgeois socialites? Guest-listed of all kinds? The avant-garde? The subject is regularly debated and depending on what we remember and where we are, being hype is either being a complete asshole or being a new creative genius. In any case, the bourgeois component does not seem to me to be of primary importance. You can be a total dork and be totally hype! I believe that this word should be used as little as possible.

MANARE COLY – RIOT KID – YOUNGUNZ – STUNTS

For me the hype is the fact of using names of people I don’t know personally but only by reputation in order to make me answer a question.
It’s using the advice of Mr. or Mrs. I AM A STAR instead of asking your best friend or sister.
“Reputation” is a good word.
A superficial image,
The hype is a circle filled with characters without a single person inside… a void in short.
It is something without much interest except for the detour for promotional purposes, that is to say to sell smiles and beautiful words in exchange for the privilege to be part of this circle which itself has no interest.
Something in which it can be good to have a foot in without dwelling too much on it, since there is nothing to see, it’s just to be seen.
it’s hard to define emptiness…it’s like putting a blank canvas in a gallery and saying it’s abstract.

GREG KOZO – DJ – MAKE THE GIRL DANCE

Complex, ephemeral, sometimes terribly exciting and often terribly vain. In fact, when you’re making music in your studio, you’re missing out on all that, and that’s good.

So for me, the hype is this photo accompanied by this caption:

“When Johnny Deep, Jack Sparrow version, disguises himself as a tramp, while keeping his D&G bag and his Lacoste hat, just to look under the girls’ skirts, that’s the hype.”

ALEX TESSEREAU – DJ – A LOUD TRACK

Hype is a bit of fashion, but in a rather particular sense of the term. Finally, for me the hype, it is what is a little at the forefront, which starts to go up, to be known, it is what one will speak about in the magazines of mode, music… It is a bit what appeals to a certain milieu before becoming more known. So sometimes, the hype is a bit dangerous because it can be ephemeral and seeing a trend that is too quickly spread everywhere can get boring and prevent the maintenance of this trend on the long term, which is sometimes a pity for the music. As Boys Noize says “don’t believe the hype”, and yet it is (hype). Beigbeder might say “the hype is me”. For my part, I think it’s good to stay informed about new trends, without becoming dependent on them. Being dependent on the trend when you make music is more of a prison than anything else. So hype, be it without complex, but without excess.

THEO – BASS PLAYER OF GLASS NOISE

In my opinion, you are either hype or you are not. Moreover, one does not become one overnight; at least it is not by trying to search for the perfect style by reading and copying this or that magazine that one can claim to be one. We must not copy fashion but create it. We don’t call ourselves “hype”, but somehow our surroundings do it for us. Before we get into this a bit more, I think we should first define the term. According to the English definition, to be hype is to use a lot of external means to attract the eye, so that people are interested in us. But I think that by having THE unique pair of boots, THE unique jacket, we can already touch the prestige of being copied. And I would add that from the moment you are copied by others, so when you create fashion, you are hype. But having THE style is not enough to be hype. No, you have to be in the right place at the right time, for example, you have to be at such and such a concert or party, in order to be known, then recognized. It is also necessary to discover the band that will soon rise, and to make it listen to its entourage even before the number of visits of Myspace explodes. Finally, I think that you can’t be hype by living only through an invented character, by living in the appearance.
