Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe 3-hand watch features for the first time a grey plasma ceramic case.

The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, one of Blancpain’s flagship timepieces, features a 3-hand dial in a deep blue reminiscent of the ocean floor. To complete the look, the grey plasma ceramic bezel features a blue ceramic insert and Liquidmetal® indexes. This metallic alloy prevents deformation. As for the case, it features the grey plasma ceramic technique. This production method allows the color to take on a subtle metallic hue. The Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback Ocean Commitment model launched in 2014 sported the same aesthetic.

Blancpain’s Bathyscaphe diver’s watches were launched in the 1950s, first for men and then for women. In 2013, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe model sports a new aesthetic reminiscent of the first editions. The contours are sharp, like those of their predecessors. The hands reveal the traditional look of the old watches, and the date is displayed in an aperture. Faithful to the original Bathyscaphe version, the luminescent index on the bezel ensures legibility of the dive time.

Like all diving watches worthy of the name, each model features a unidirectional bezel that turns counterclockwise in small increments. When diving, the second hand acts as an operating indicator. The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is water-resistant to 30 bar, or 300 meters. The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe automatic watch is equipped with the famous caliber 1315. This is distinguished by its robustness and exceptional chronometric performance. A technological feat, its three barrels fitted in series give the movement a 5-day autonomy while guaranteeing constant energy. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback, allowing the wearer to admire its modern, technical appearance. It features a silicon balance spring. A true innovation for the watchmaking industry, silicon has several advantages. Its low density makes silicon particularly light, and one of its other assets is its high resistance to shocks and magnetic fields. Thanks to these properties, the balance-spring benefits from an almost perfect geometry, which in turn improves the isochronism of the movement and therefore the precision of the watch. Conceived and designed for sports watches, the caliber 1315 is equipped with a robust glucydur balance wheel featuring square-headed gold micrometric adjusting screws, guaranteeing both precision and adjusting ef ciency.

This watch comes with two strap options. The NATO with three loops or the sailcloth version.
