Private Cellar

Time is an essential factor in the evolution of Champagne wines, and in revealing the unique character of each one.

Cave Privée is a collection of fine wines which, because of their exceptional quality and great ageing potential, have been carefully preserved over several decades, in the very heart of Veuve Clicquot’s crayères in Reims.

In 2010, to mark the bi-centenary of Veuve Clicquot’s first vintage, Dominique Demarville, Cellar Master, opened the doors to this private heritage, enabling enthusiasts to taste and share the House’s exceptional heritage. In 2014, this collection evolved, with the Cave Privée reopening its doors and launching a new selection of vintages.

These white and rosé vintages, which have spent a minimum of 20 years in our cellars, have undergone their own dosage and disgorgement, and have been aged in a variety of bottles: bottle, magnum and jeroboam. The aim is to offer the widest possible range of tastings, with subtle and profound variations.

The bottles are numbered and presented in a top-of-the-range wooden box to celebrate the exceptional years that have marked the history of the House of Veuve Clicquot.

PRIVATE CELLAR 1990 ROSÉ – A BENCHMARK YEAR

The 1990 vintage Rosé is a great wine. A year that fulfilled all the cellar master’s hopes, with a wine made under perfect conditions, before it was confined to the cellar to fully express its maturity. The color is very beautiful, with particularly luminous copper highlights, and an explosive nose with abundant aromas. The bouquet is aromatic, with gourmet notes of morello cherry and gingerbread, followed by peat and licorice. The fine bubbles glide over the palate, delicate rather than aggressive, with a lingering finish due to the full, vinous character of the Pinot Noir and the low dosage.

The recommended retail price for a 75cl bottle is around 222€. Also available in magnum.

CAVE PRIVÉE 1989 WHITE – A SURPRISING YEAR

A warm climate has shaped supple, full-bodied wines that we’re rediscovering today, full of youth and unexpected freshness. Abundantly flavored, the structure provided by Pinot Noir offers a powerful palate of remarkable presence, with a lingering finish. Once aerated in a rounded glass, the sense of smell awakens, provoked by aromas of ripe fruit, dried fruit and exotic spices. Discreet notes of saffron, star anise, sandalwood and eau-de-vie come through. Yet this wine is still far from its peak. Already full-bodied, it will gradually reveal its strength over the next 20 years.

The recommended retail price for a 75cl bottle is around €178. Also available in magnum and jeroboam.
