Fashion doesn’t just take place in Paris, Milan, New York and London… Berlin is home to many talented designers who have nothing to envy from their established counterparts.
This is the case of Dawid Tomaszewski, (already spotted in German Vogue!) a young designer of Polish origin who cut his teeth at the London College of Fashion (like Jimmy Choo) then in Tokyo before settling in Berlin.
The brand brings together two lines, “New Couture” and “Studio”, under the name STUDIO TOMASZEWSKI. For the past 4 years, the collections have been causing a sensation at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin: innovative designs, attention to detail and quality have made all the difference. The pieces combine industrial materials with unexpected yokes and avant-garde cuts to reinvent the chic dressing room.
Influenced by contemporary art, architecture and music, Dawid Tomaszweski’s work is a skilful blend of his vision of the 21st-century woman and traditional fashion know-how. Each collection reflects his desire to create a garment that stands the test of time.
“New Couture” is the very ethos of the brand: it combines the grandeur of Haute Couture with the accessibility of Prêt-à-porter. Each design seems sculpted on the female body, yet remains easy to wear.
The Studio’s latest collection, entitled “Heavenly Bodies”, is an ode to femininity. Drawn into the infinite world of the catacombs, Dawid Tomaszewski declares his love for the infinite beauty of women through a collection of embroidered pieces. An adoration reflected in elements such as macramé, embroidery and crystals. Fine materials and details worthy of a Couture collection blend with more classic cuts and pared-down patterns, a signature of the brand for years. Inspired by the black-and-white work of photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto, the geometric abstraction of François Morellet and the graphic weavings of Bahaus pioneer Anni Alberts, STUDIO TOMASZEWSKI’s Fall Winter 2014 collection features Swarovski crystals, shoes and accessories by Tanah Rhea, Aperlai, Roeckl and Swarovski.
