La Française des Jeux celebrated in great pomp Wednesday evening the 40 years of the lotto at the hotel of Evreux. A chic reception room located on Place Vendôme.

Lotto is a French institution! It is part of the collective imagination. The advertisements and television reports on the lottery winners have made millions of French people dream. In the room of the Hotel d’Evreux where the event was held, huge lotto balls were fixed just below the glass roof. Stéphane Pallez, CEO of La Française des Jeux, recalls the history of the lottery and its missions. Jean-Pierre Foucault who presents the lotto draw is also present. In the room many leaders in costume and former winners of the lotto. Marie-Josée Perec, Olympic medalist, is also among the guests. The buffet signed Potel and Chabot is delicious. Sushi is offered to the guests but also shrimps or small bites.

At 9:30 pm, a lottery is organized. On arrival we were given a lottery ticket. A good idea! Two tickets for the Euro 2016 final at the Stade de France are at stake! The draw under the supervision of a bailiff takes place: the suspense is at its height and the “23” comes out of the hat. Guess what? It’s mine! I am welcomed by Vincent Cerutti on the stage with the projectors in my face and a big stupid smile lights up my face before the presenter continues… There are other numbers 23 in the room. Two more people are coming up! Oh no! There is also the lucky number! And then, guess what, number 10 comes out. Obviously, not mine. Arghh!!! It doesn’t matter, I’m told I’ve won a lithograph. In short, I got the poster, literally and figuratively. Guests even come to console me afterwards. The evening continues with some very funny classical musicians.

10pm, time to go home. In the subway, we leaf through the press kit in which we learn that 16,530 people have already won the Loto Jackpot. The Loto is 17 million players per year. I am part of it and I always have a real pleasure to play. Let’s hope the wheel turns on the next draw!
