In 2006, seduced by Domaine des Sénéchaux and the richness of its wines, the Cazes family, owners of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, acquired this historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape property. Major efforts were made to raise the quality of the wines to the very best of this illustrious appellation.

Domaine des Sénéchaux, an emblematic Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate

In the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine des Sénéchaux is one of the oldest vineyards in the region, dating back to the 14th century. It takes its name from one of the estate’s main plots in the “Bois Sénéchaux” district. Benefiting from a favorable environment and located in the “noble” part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 27-hectare vineyard is planted on soils typical of the appellation, rich in cailloutis and galets roulés (rounded pebbles) derived from alpine diluvium.
Under the guidance of Bernard Tranchecoste, Technical Director, our work methods remain traditional in both cultivation and vinification: severe pruning, regular ploughing, green harvesting of young vines, rigorous sorting of the harvest, de-stemming, long vatting periods, ageing in casks and bottling of the entire production.
Domaine des Sénéchaux produces full-bodied red wines and fleshy, aromatic whites, both reflecting the richness of their respective terroirs. The 2014 vintage The very wet winter replenished the water table, compensating for several years of drought. Thanks to the dry, mild spring, the vegetative cycle was particularly early. However, the cool, rainy summer slowed this advance, requiring the technical team to work around the clock to ensure that the vineyards were in good health.
Ripening takes place slowly in a cool climate that favors aromatic complexity. Harvesting begins on September 17 with Roussanne, followed by Grenache on September 22, and ends on September 28 with Bourboulenc and Clairette. Domaine des Sénéchaux blanc 2014 is a blend of 34% Roussanne, 29% Clairette, 28% Grenache blanc and 9% Bourboulenc.
The wine is beautifully limpid, pale yellow with light green highlights. The fresh, expressive nose opens with aromas of hawthorn blossom and exotic fruit, mixed with citrus zest. On the palate, the attack is frank, revealing notes of white-fleshed fruit. The wood comes in softly, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla. The persistent, round finish completes the wine’s balance.
Domaine des Sénéchaux blanc 2014 is sold at the best wine merchants at an average retail price of €35-40.
