Boizel expands its Monocrus collection with two cuvées from the same vintage but different terroirs: Avize and Tours-sur-Marne. The interest lies not in juxtaposing two festive bottles, but in observing how the House isolates two villages to make legible what Champagne blending usually erases.
The Monocrus collection was created in 2025 by Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel. In 2026, it welcomes Avize 2020, a Grand Cru blanc de blancs made solely from chardonnay, and Tours-sur-Marne 2020, a Grand Cru blanc de noirs made exclusively from pinot noir. Both cuvées aged five years on lees.
In Avize, on the Côte des Blancs, Boizel seeks a vertical reading of chardonnay: tension, chalky minerality and salinity. The stated aromatic register combines acacia, hawthorn, citrus, brioche and toasted almond. In Tours-sur-Marne, at the junction between the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne, pinot noir builds a fuller substance, with ripe fruit, brioche, fresh butter, praline, spice and lightly roasted notes.
Both references are sold at the same suggested price, seventy-five euros, and each limited to four thousand bottles. This symmetry makes the comparison particularly clear: same vintage, same time on lees, same price point, but different grape varieties and villages.
Boizel completes this reading with Joyau Chardonnay 2014, a blend of chardonnays from Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Vertus. This cuvée, offered at one hundred and forty euros, recalls the other side of Champagne craft: after isolating the cru, the return to blending as the House’s signature.
The collection thus becomes less a seasonal selection than a small exercise in viticultural pedagogy. What remains to be documented is what the press materials do not yet reveal: dosage, fermentation, the proportion of any reserve wine, and the precise choices made in ageing. It is this data that will ultimately allow one to compare not only the claimed terroirs but also the way the cellar chooses to interpret them.
