Henrik Vibskov’s runway show/artistic performance for the fall/winter 2016-2017 season was one of the highlights of fashion week.
In the middle of the podium was a 22-metre-long wooden structure. First hidden behind a long white sheet and then revealed to the public, the structure featured 200 wooden puppet heads. Beneath the structure, 3 artists articulated the puppets in such a way that they opened their mouths and produced a musical noise in rhythm with the parade music.

These wooden heads are inspired by the traditional German nutcracker. Above all, they convey a message: the heads reflect the never-ending flow of information (or misinformation) that drives human beings to the brink of madness.
With this art project, Henrik Vibskov asks how the brain processes information: “How does the brain store all this information? The structure symbolizes the imaginary structure of a brain trying to keep “everything in order”. He compares the brain to a walnut, hence the name of the show: “The Jaw Nuts Piece”.
The silhouettes in the show all had one thing in common: all the models wore a headdress “to protect them from the flow of information”, an element also found on the shoes.
Stripes are very present, and the color palette (Henrik Vibskov was inspired by 50s packaging) mixes fairly classic colors (black, khaki green, white, pale pink) with brighter ones (red, blue and sunny yellow), but the whole remains sober and elegant.
The main material used remains knitwear (worked in 3D or pleated), but one of the collection’s star pieces is the down jacket, which can be zipped in several ways to achieve different looks.
Henrik Vibskov, is currently working on an exhibition that will take place in May 2016 in Stockholm, but in parallel he works as a costume designer for the Semperoper opera in Dresden for the ballet “COW” and for the Oslo opera for the ballet “A Swan Lake”.
