The Dior VIII Montaigne Steel and Mother of Pearl – available in July :
8: a magic number for Christian Dior, evoking in turn October 8, 1946, the day he opened his Maison; his address on Avenue Montaigne, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris; and “En Huit”, the name of his first collection. It was only natural that the first ceramic watch designed by Dior should be given, in addition to the designer’s name, these four characters of obvious simplicity: VIII.

Dior Grand soir number 28 Origami
Purity of line, clarity of cut: since its creation, Dior has never ceased to dialogue with Japan. From the revolutionary feminine volumes of the “Bar” suit to the first collections by Raf Simons, the refined elegance of the Avenue Montaigne fashion house and its taste for the subtle interplay of volumes, angles and falls never cease to resonate with the art and spirit of the Japanese archipelago.
In 2014, the Dior Grand Soir “Origami” watch salutes this intimate relationship by celebrating one of the most delicate arts of the land of the rising sun: origami. More than two millennia old, this art of paper folding has established itself as one of the absolute benchmarks of Japanese creativity, whose multiple variations have made their mark in most fields, from design to fashion to contemporary art.
With the Dior Grand Soir “Origami”, Dior interprets this aesthetic and savoir-faire on the dials of a 33 mm-diameter timepiece. These mother-of-pearl marquetry dials have been worked in three dimensions, offering an optical effect that is enhanced by the triangle or baguette-helix cut of the precious stones adorning the bezels: sapphires, tsavorite garnets, spessartite garnets and diamonds.
If Japan is indeed present, in the meticulously thought-out balance of shapes and volumes, the Dior Grand Soir “Origami” also evokes the skill of the hands of the seamstresses at the Avenue Montaigne ateliers, experts in the art of folding fabrics and materials, saluted here by the assembly of patent leather and satin on the bracelets in the collection.
Juggling pure lines and precious stones, the Dior Grand Soir “Origami” is offered in five unique pieces.
