Nemotron Transcribe: Keeping Voice Close to Its Source

NVIDIA presents Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe to transcribe, tell speakers apart and translate. Open weights make it possible to choose where the audio is processed.

A workshop meeting contains more than sentences to be turned into text: material names, corrections and decisions all circulate together. NVIDIA presents Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe as a model able to transcribe forty languages, identify speakers, translate and answer questions about a recording.

Choosing the place, checking the words

In its announcement of 28 October, NVIDIA states that the weights are available and that instructions can include specialised vocabulary. The quantised versions intended to ease certain local deployments are still announced as forthcoming. The availability of the weights therefore does not mean that any machine can use them immediately.

For a house, the interest of local processing would be better control over the circulation of a sensitive recording. This possibility has to be verified in the actual configuration: where is the file kept, which services are involved and who can review the transcript? The model’s location alone does not answer the question.

Making room for creative work

NVIDIA also describes a setting for sharing graphics resources between foreground applications and background agents. This choice makes a trade-off visible: speeding up an automated task can compete with the software a person is using.

A useful trial would look as much at this working comfort as at transcription speed. It would compare correctly rendered trade terms, speaker attributions and correction time. A transcript produced quickly but repaired at length does not provide the same service as a document that can be used straight away.
