There are colours that do not seek to be noticed, and that is precisely what makes them remarkable. RIMOWA has just found one in stone: Stone, a warm greige inspired by travertine, joins the German house’s Hybrid collection. Neither grey nor beige, this new colour upsets nothing — it rather deepens an idea RIMOWA has defended for over a century, that of a travel object designed to last, and therefore never to go out of fashion.
Travertine is not an incidental choice. This limestone, which built Roman baths before covering entire façades, carries within it a form of mineral permanence. RIMOWA keeps its hue more than its texture: a soft greige that matches the silver details that have become the signature of the Hybrid collection, and that has the particularity of passing through the seasons without ever seeming dated — a more delicate wager than it appears for an object meant to live in its owner’s hands for decades.
In the world of prestige luggage, the temptation is great to bet on a vivid colour to stand out on a baggage carousel. For several seasons RIMOWA has made the opposite choice: betting on neutral shades, able to age with their owner rather than date with the season that saw them born. Stone follows in this continuity, alongside the greys and beiges that have gradually gained ground on the brand’s more graphic compositions.
The Hybrid collection, for its part, has not changed its vocation. It remains the meeting point between a lightweight, monochrome polycarbonate shell and resistant aluminium corners, a hybridisation that has built the house’s reputation among regular travellers. The Stone colour comes in three sizes: the Cabin, designed for short getaways, the Check-In L for longer stays, and the Trunk Plus, a vertical and compact silhouette that manages to hold two weeks of luggage without ever seeming bulky. Each suitcase keeps the attributes that built the house’s reputation: a telescopic handle with no step, the Multi-wheel system for total manoeuvrability, TSA-approved locks, and an interior structured by Flex Dividers that compress belongings rather than letting them float. A complimentary leather tag and a new side handle with built-in damper complete this version.
The launch is announced as gradual: a preliminary round reserved for mainland China from 13 August 2026, before worldwide availability from 27 August, in boutiques and on RIMOWA.com. Prices range from €920 for the Cabin to €1,150 for the Check-In L and €1,450 for the Trunk Plus. Like all RIMOWA suitcases purchased since 25 July 2022, the Stone collection benefits from the lifetime warranty introduced by the house in 2023 — a way of asserting that the colour changes, but the commitment stays.
Founded in 1898, RIMOWA built its legend on the grooved aluminium borrowed from aeronautics in the 1920s, before introducing the first polycarbonate suitcase in 2000 and joining the LVMH group in 2017. In this genealogy made of material ruptures, Stone is not a matter of innovation but of nuance — a reminder that, in travel as elsewhere, sophistication sometimes lies less in what one adds than in what one chooses not to change.
