From September 1 to October 2, 2016, Kiliwatch Paris is teaming up with Who’s Next and Première Classe to get to grips with Upcycling. A partnership we’ll explain right away!

Since its creation, Kiliwatch has offered a new vision of vintage clothing. In keeping with this dynamic, (RE)CREATE is a Kiliwatch, Who’s Next & Première Classe collaboration based on Upcycling. It illustrates the new aspirations of our times by giving a second-hand piece an even more admirable aesthetic than in its first life. It’s also, and above all, a true creative manifesto, a desire to go beyond the initial function of the garment, to make it a more beautiful, stronger piece. The value of clothing has changed considerably in recent years, and more and more people are looking to reuse and revisit pieces that are both essential and forgotten. The result of upcycling is a unique object, a link between the past and the present.

Kiliwatch Paris, Who’s Next & Première Classe, always looking to the future, have invited ten promising young designers to take part in the upcycling exercise as part of the (RE)CREATE project. What they all have in common is that they hail from the sunny shores of the Mediterranean, the theme of this year’s show. The EUREKA FRIPE store in Rouen, better known through its biggest Parisian showcase, Kiliwatch Paris, lent itself to the game of creation by freeing up its premises to the 10 talents. The challenge: to create a mini-collection of twenty pieces using the vintage garments at their disposal. The huge 25,000-square-meter warehouse is home to 3,500 tons of second-hand clothing and supplies the world’s best vintage boutiques, so there was no shortage of inspiration for the designers! For a whole day, designers were able to immerse themselves in this ocean of clothing and let their ideas guide them. Who’s Next and Première Classe joined forces with Kiliwatch Paris for the event. The brand has always cultivated the charm of the past with a certain accuracy that shapes contemporary fashion. For Kiliwatch, (RE)CREATE is an opportunity to offer another reading of the influence of its unique pieces on contemporary fashion.

Here are the 7 young designers taking part in this event and keeping a close eye on them: Sea for Sea Norman, Second ST., Delphine Dénéréaz, Manémané, Louis Gabriel Nouchi, Front de Mode and Work_On. Each with their own distinctive style, their vision of fashion has been forged by their travels and personal experiences. The Spanish duo MANÉMANÉ, Miguel and Guillermo, were spotted by Who’s Next during their last fashion show, while LOUIS GABRIEL NOUCHI won two prizes at the Hyères Festival in 2014. If upcycling is still an unfamiliar term to most, it is the technique of choice for Italian Giuseppe Caniglia aka WORK_ON. which entirely hand-finished pairs of old sneakers, in a very street style.

The designers at Work_On

We can’t wait to discover the creations of these young designers, from September 1 to October 2, when the collections will be on sale at Kiliwatch Paris in Etienne Marcel. The clothes will also be on display from September 2 to 5, in the VIP areas of the Who’s Next and Première Classe trade shows at Porte de Versailles. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate upcycling, with a Mediterranean-themed (RE)CREATE evening on September 7– music – parasols – deckchairs – aperitifs… will prolong summer in an unexpected setting. Finally, for those who may soon be flying off to new horizons, from October 14 to 22, the (RE)CREATE pop-up store at LAFORET will open in Tokyo’s Harajuku district.
