A ravishing outfit
This season is inspired by the plum tree, which, in the face of winter’s vicissitudes, is the first to bloom, simultaneously expressing vigor and delicacy. The brand’s unique motifs retain the power of brushstrokes and the boldness of color contrasts. Handmade embroidery, jacquards and hand-painted prints express themselves in the garment. All the colors follow a development that begins with budding and then reaches full bloom. Classic blacks and whites are followed by a range of pinks, which in turn extend into a saturated blue and plum blossom red, expressing an elegant arrogance in the rigors of winter. Then, golden yellow, peach pink, vivid green and indigo, all particularly dense, make the budding even brighter. Finally, delicate white, salmon pink and absinthe green transform into pure pomegranate red and intense pine green, expressing the full bloom of the plum blossom as it rises and sways in the wind. Men’s clothing, meanwhile, recalls the allure of the men of letters of yesteryear. A large number of calm, serene grays and blacks are used, complemented by the few bright colors of classic high-neck jackets, coats and polo shirts. The brand’s unique motifs are used sparingly, adorning the body of the garment and the collar. The plum blossom is also metamorphosed into Chinese buttons that appear offset on the front of the coat and on the cuffs, showing just how well the brand has mastered the elegant, timeless style of men of letters.For the pre-autumn 2021 collection, Shiatzy Chen perseveres with its savoir-faire and once again gives pride of place to the plum blossom in its garments. The men’s garments evoke the allure of the men of letters of yesteryear and express a certain poetry. A light, refined style enhances their beauty. Women’s clothing, meanwhile, is inspired by the pretty contours of the 60s. They blend the colors of different flowering periods and, through deconstruction, introduce the idea of a “ravishing habit”, outlining the versatile and abundant look of modern women.
This style is complemented by an abundance of lace, sheer and pleated fabrics that reflect a certain autumnal tranquility. The accessories that are added follow the plum blossom theme, such as asymmetrical pendant earrings in the shape of a plum blossom, metal bracelets engraved with plum blossoms, belts and multi-layered beaded chains encrusted with plum blossoms. This season’s handbags are also out of the ordinary. The metal turning knob in the shape of the brand’s new SC logo, combined with the jade-colored handles, and the goatskin leather with embroidered flower buds express a sense of innovation combining oriental culture and modern cleanliness. Romantically feminine details are contrasted with classic Chinese-style sleeves and collars, youthful shorts, short skirts and neat white shirts. Matching boots reveal a uniquely feminine style with unrivalled vitality, and offer the view not only of slender youth, but above all of the intrepid spirit of a plum blossom about to blossom.In terms of contours, menswear combines classic Chinese cut with different types of materials. Chinese and Western, modern and classic blend to create something new. Different fabrics and colors are used to create a sleek silhouette. Women’s clothing, meanwhile, makes extensive use of the pretty contours of the 60s, through, among other things, short dresses, short jackets, long jackets accompanied by short skirts or short pants. The brand’s classic two-pieces show more vitality than ever before, using different jacquard designs. The look of the outer layers recalls not only the evanescent aspect of the plum blossom, but also the rocky aspect. In the inner layers, this aspect is accompanied by vigorous yet delicate Chinese-style artistic prints. The inner and outer layers echo each other several times. Sumptuous, lustrous fabrics such as sequined fabric, satin, a wool-silk blend, flannel, lace and jacquard in contrasting colors are combined, with some tartan elements such as tartan tartan, wool gauze with a checkerboard-like plum blossom pattern, wool with square holes and down in a grid pattern. Different methods are used to reveal Western motifs, accompanied by the Chinese sewing elements and embroidery techniques for which the brand is famous.
