For summer 2018, and as always, agnès b. is reworking its designs to stay in tune with the times, season after season. This time, the designer offers us pure colors, keeping her casual chic style simple. In her different universes, thanks to the delicate particularities of the garments, materials and patterns, from the softest to the most daring, blend perfectly.
It was while leafing through a book by André Villers and Picasso that agnès b. noticed the strange familiarity of the painter’s wardrobe with her own creations and made it the starting point for her men’s summer 2018 collection. Open-weave knitwear, poplin boxer shorts and work shirts with patch pockets recall the comfort essential to the painter. The colors china blue, white, beige and black illustrate this pleasant lifestyle, with the enlarged volumes of cuts, designed to be comfortable. Floral-print shirts designed by the stylist and straight-leg pants with tucked-in waists complete the theme.
After observing this simplicity in which she recognizes herself, agnès b. also found photos to try and redefine French elegance. Sepia photographs taken in the summer of 1936 in Normandy by her father. These characters appear as fashion icons of the period, nonchalantly dressed in light linen suits, jacquards, flea-bit or double-breasted jackets, or college-boy sweaters and jackets. The family’s remarkably elegant approach to summer activities, such as sailboat escapades and seaside lunches, inspired a theme with a cheerful, playful atmosphere: boat collars or square necklines, polo shirts, striped T-shirts and even a digital print of a photo of a sailboat on a woven motif.
The same man for whom the designer has created rockier, more extravagant pieces for the nightlife she loves, with, for example, a black-and-white jacquard jacket that shakes up the codes all by itself. Street art is also present in the collection, in small touches on the back of jackets, or in an all-over print signed JonOne on a suit; as are digital prints, from various models, from Abdelkader Benchamma to photographs taken by the designer. Artists’ T-shirts and jersey, worked in all its forms – suit, jacket on its own, T-shirt or polo shirt – complete this men’s summer 2018 collection.
