Champagne Colin, discovering an exceptional family champagne

The House of Champagne Colin is a family business of Champagne in France that has existed for seven generations. It is based in Vertus, a Premier Cru village in the Côte des Blancs, and is inspired by the land of its vines to make its wines. The Colin family has owned vineyards since 1829 and made the choice to become an independent winemaker about 20 years ago. Today, the brothers Richard and Romain Colin are owner-harvesters and make wines only from their vineyard. The majority of their 11-hectare vineyard is planted with Chardonnay in the Côte des Blancs, with some Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in the village of Sézanne. They use both traditional and modern techniques to make their Champagnes, which are available in Extra Brut, Brut, Millésimés or without year. Champagne Colin is also committed to sustainable development and works with local farmers to promote environmentally friendly agriculture.

CUVÉE LES PRÔLES & CHÉTIVINS 2008

Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs 1
er
Cru

This cuvée is named after the two old vines that make it up. Produced only in exceptional years, it reveals all the authenticity and purity of the Vertus terroir, the heart of the Premier Cru terroir.

– Composition : 100% Chardonnay.
– Terroir : Vertus Premier Cru. Viticulture certified High Environmental Value Level 3
Average age of vines: vines planted in the 1960s require a demanding and precise berry harvest.
– Ageing: 13 years ageing on lees in cool cellars and 3 years after disgorgement – Dosage: 3g/l, Extra-Brut.

The aromas of fresh bread, hazelnut, tobacco, are supported by an elegant woody expression. The nose then reveals notes of elegant maturity, with candied fruits, dried figs, caramel or quince paste. A subtle floral touch completes the ensemble. The palate is quite different from the nose, and expresses a frank tension from the attack. A beautiful salinity settles then in the course of the tasting. The heart of the mouth is amazing and reveals notes of mocha and chocolate, reminiscent of the fullness felt on the nose.

This champagne can be shared as an aperitif, with oysters, foie gras or an almond financier…
