Luxsure has always been a fervent supporter of art in all its forms. In these troubled times, we are proud to announce our partnership with ART Paris.
Art Paris 2020 in September: a show of resistance for the 1st cultural event of the Parisian autumn.
A show of resistance
Postponed, then reinvented in a digital version, Art Paris 2020, the fair for modern and contemporary art, will be reborn at the end of the summer at the Grand Palais in a physical version from September 10 to 13, thanks to the support of the majority of galleries and the unfailing commitment of collectors wishing to support the art scene.
It will be Europe’s leading cultural and market event.
Here’s a best of of our scouts from the last edition.
Improved sanitary conditions and a vernissage spread over five days
The Grand Palais, with its 45-metre-high glass roof, offers exceptional volumes, and the layout of the fair has been redesigned with wider aisles to accommodate 112 galleries. In addition, the capacity has been lowered to 3,000 people at any given time under the glass roof. As a result, the opening on September 9 has been shortened and spread over five days, from September 10 to 13, from 10am to 12pm.
Supporting and promoting the work of galleries
This year’s edition of la résistance is part of a drive to support and promote the work of galleries. According to Guillaume Piens, general curator of Art Paris, “it’s now, more than ever, that galleries need to work and meet their collectors. It’s also important for their artists. Art Paris has the advantage of being above all a local and regional fair, with a large majority of French galleries and a public that comes 75% from the Île-de-France and other regions of France”.
As a result, France Conventions, the organizer of Art Paris, granted very favorable conditions to participating galleries: deferral of sums already paid to the September edition, deferral of the balance of participation until two months after the fair, a 15% “solidarity” discount on stand prices and the creation of a solidarity fund, financed by ticket sales, to finance the participation of 14 young galleries less than six years old.
A renewed edition with 112 galleries, including 24 international, marked by the arrival of major names and a new wave of young galleries
For this 22nd edition, 112 galleries are present, including 24 from abroad. Korea, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire and Peru will be represented, along with Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland.
The 2020 selection, which includes 36% new participants, sees the arrival of major names such as Perrotin, Jeanne Bucher Jaeger, Karsten Greve associated with Caroline Smulders, who join loyalists such as Nathalie Obadia, Templon, Lahumière and Paris-Beijing. A special place has also been reserved
for a young generation of gallerists such as Pauline Pavec, Arnaud Faure Baulieu, Eva Hober and 193 Gallery, who affirm Art Paris’ vocation as a discoverer.
A look at the French scene: common and uncommon histories
Art Paris supports the French art scene by combining the subjective, historical and critical view of a curator with a selection of specific projects by French artists, proposed by participating galleries. Under the title Histoires communes et peu communes, Gaël Charbau, independent curator and art critic, offers his take on the French scene by bringing together 19 artists, most of whom were born in the 1980s, whose works highlight notions of narrative, singular and universal stories. According to Gaël Charbau, who was also invited to write a text on each artist to introduce their work,
“it seems that we can give a glimpse of our common history by intersecting the unusual histories of these artists (Henni Alftan, Léa Belooussovitch, Abdelkader Benchamma, Elsa & Johanna…), most of whom are still in the early stages of their careers. And, of course, with an eye to some of their
elders (Roland Flexner, Sophie Calle, Hervé Télémaque). “
