La Créole Beach Hôtel & Spa
With its beaches, lush nature and authenticity, Guadeloupe is well worth a visit. This archipelago in the French Caribbean, or more precisely the Lesser Antilles, is an incredibly rich destination. Here are 5 good reasons to discover this little paradise.
1. Relax on beautiful beaches
Guadeloupe has many beaches with translucent water. They come in a wide variety. Sainte-Anne beach is one of the most attractive. It is very typical, with restaurants lining the beach. The Saint-François lagoon is also a well-known spot. The yellow sand beaches of Sainte-Rose and Deshaies are very extensive. South of Basse-Terre, you can discover black sand beaches.
2. Discover Basse-Terre
Basse-Terre, in the south-west, is home to many treasures. The Carbet Falls, located in Capesterre-Belle-Eau, are a must-see. Three in number, the Carbet Falls owe their name to the Grand Carbet River. The river rises in the eastern flank of the Soufrière massif. The sulphurous water plunges three times from the top of the impressive cliffs. The Carbet Falls are among the most beautiful in the Lesser Antilles. In Basse-Terre, taking the Traversée is a great option. This mountainous road, in the middle of Basse Terre, cuts the island from east to west and climbs to the Col des Mamelles, at an altitude of over 600m, through dense tropical forest. It’s a plunge into fortunately preserved tropical nature.
3. Take a boat trip to Les Saintes
Guadeloupe is an archipelago. Numerous islands can be visited by boat, including Marie-Galante, Désirade and Les Saintes. The latter certainly boasts one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Three forts overlook the bay: Fort Joséphine on îlet à Cabris, Batterie de la Tête-Rouge between Anse Galet and Anse du Fond Curé, and, above all, Fort Napoléon. Situated 110 meters above sea level, Fort Napoléon is a 15-minute walk from the port, making it a great idea for a stroll once you’ve disembarked. The village is also full of charm. The islands of Les Saintes can be reached by boat from Saint François.
4. Visit the Pointe-à-Pitre markets and visit MACTe
The archipelago’s largest city, Pointe-à-Pitre, offers the widest choice of shops and souvenirs. There are numerous stores along Rue Frébault, Rue Nozières and Rue Schoelcher. The picturesque open-air markets are worth a visit, as much for the atmosphere as for the tropical produce on sale. The Spice Market is not to be missed, as are the Saint-Antoine, Saint-Jules and Flower Markets.
Inaugurated by the in 2015, the ACTe Memorial is the Caribbean Center for Expression and Remembrance of the Slave Trade and Slavery, with an architecture unique in the Caribbean. Educational and accessible, the venue features a 1700 m² permanent exhibition, a space dedicated to contemporary artistic creation and a panoramic garden, the Morne Mémoire, offering a view of the ocean, the mountains of Basse-Terre and the bay of Pointe-à-Pitre.
5. Stay at La Créole Beach Hôtel & Spa
Guadeloupe offers a wide range of hotels. La Créole Beach Hôtel is undoubtedly the most beautiful hotel on the island. Located in Gosier, it offers top-of-the-range services.
