The MEE restaurant at the Belmond Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro has become one of the first restaurants in South America to be awarded a prestigious Michelin star.
Listed in the first edition of the Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro & São Paolo , the pan-Asian restaurant MEE is one of six Rio de Janeiro venues to be awarded a star. The famous guide recommends the restaurant for its spicy mandarin Thai salad, quail egg and truffle sushi and Kobe beef tataki with ponzu.
Headed by BBC star Chef Ken Hom, MEE restaurant opened its doors in February 2014 in the iconic Belmond Copacabana Palace, the splendid building located on the famous Copacabana beach. The city’s first pan-Asian luxury restaurant, MEE is located right next to the hotel’s swimming pool and takes epicureans on an exotic gastronomic journey, offering dishes with Thai, Cambodian, Japanese flavors and more.
In addition to the restaurant’s innovative pan-Asian menu, gourmets can sample specialties from the sushi bar and accompany each dish with one of 25 sakes imported from Japan, offered by the city’s only sake sommelier, a sake stewardess. The menu also offers a wide choice of beverages, including 18 cocktails, and guests are invited to choose their favorite flavor of tea to be prepared and served at the end of the meal.
Chef Ken Hom commented: “I am extremely proud that MEE has received this coveted recognition. The team and I are committed to bringing luxury Pan-Asian cuisine to Rio de Janeiro and will continue to develop the restaurant’s innovative menu.
To celebrate the MEE restaurant’s first Michelin star, the Belmond Copacabana Palace hotel is offering the “Michelin Package” from 780 euros per room. Valid until December 27, 2015, it includes:
– Two nights’ luxury accommodation, including breakfast
