New Delhi was the venue for the World Diamond Conference in India.
The World Diamond Mark, a non-profit organization chaired by Alex Popov, was created to promote diamonds and increase their expansion worldwide.
Among the 900-plus attendees were political representatives involved in the diamond market, such as Vladimir Putin, IndianPrime Minister Narendra Modi and other industry players such as Chow Tai Fook, China’s leading jeweller.
Mr. Popov, who is also President of the Moscow Diamond Exchange, chose India as his host country to symbolize the jewellery relationship between Europe and India, where 14 out of 15 diamonds are currently cut.
It was an opportunity for Olivier Mellerio to present the oldest jewelry house, MELLERIO dits MELLER, to all the guests, and to receive the award “In recognition of his contribution to the history and industry of diamonds, jewelry and luxury goods”.
After 4 centuries of service, Gita Devi, heiress of a former major client of the House (the Maharajah of Kapurthala), has the honor of presenting this award.
In 1906, her husband’s ancestor, Jagatjit Singh, bought an aigrette brooch depicting a majestic peacock, made of enamel, gold and set with diamonds. Worn at the wedding of King Alfonso XIII in Spain, this is one of the finest pieces from the House of Mellerio dits Meller.
“It was a wonderful surprise for me, and a very special, moving moment. It perfectly represented how strong the relationships between the Mellerio’s and their customers are, even three generations later!!!”
Olivier Mellerio
