Founded 40 years ago by Marin Karmitz, mk2 is France’s leading independent cinema group. With its 12 cinemas in Paris, mk2 defends “another idea of cinema” through eclectic programming and constant innovation in its field. In 2010, mk2 launches its first private cinema, Germain Paradisio. This was quickly followed by the opening of the Silencio and then the mk2 Grand Palais. Today, mk2 is still a forerunner, offering Madame Cinéma and Mademoiselle Cinéma two high-end cinemas in the heart of the Palais de Tokyo, and creating “by MK2”, a network of mini-private cinemas on demand.
A link between the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées, since 2002 the Palais de Tokyo has been the home of today’s artists and Europe’s largest center for contemporary art. An interdisciplinary venue devoted to contemporary creation in all its forms – exhibitions, concerts, performances – the Palais de Tokyo is a place where art lives non-stop. Offbeat, original and singular, the Palais de Tokyo stands out for its eclectic, convivial lifestyle spaces: restaurants, bookshop, garden, club and now high-end private cinema.
The former Cinémathèque française rooms in the heart of the Palais de Tokyo have been given a makeover: last night, the Palais de Tokyo, Noctis and MK2 inaugurated two high-end private screening rooms, Madame Cinéma and Mademoiselle Cinéma, with capacities of 60 and 25 “grand confort” seats respectively.
Nathanael and Elisha Karmitz have designed Madame Cinéma in a dominant shade of red and black, fully equipped with armchairs for two, Martin Székély’s famous “love seats”, an 8-metre screen and 3D projection equipment.
Mademoiselle Cinéma offers 25 large, comfortable red velvet armchairs with foot and headrests, plus a small table for drinks and dinner. At the back of the room, a subdued bar welcomes guests.
Equipped with 2K projectors, Dolby Digital 5.1 and 7.1 sound and wifi, both rooms are open to privatization and offer a wide range of services: previews, professional screenings, press conferences, meetings and all kinds of tailor-made events.
An adjoining space can be used for workshops or interviews, and to organize breakfasts, coffee breaks, cocktails, buffets, brunches… Menus are prepared to the customer’s taste, in containers adapted to the cinema, and in a high-quality “finger food” spirit.
