A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a unique experience in the company of Nissan. We were able to test drive the new Nissan Leaf, a jewel of technology, in the middle of the Formula E Grand Prix in Paris. It was a grand prix to remember, as the weather conditions made it completely insane.
It all starts with a visit to Station F, the flagship of tech made in France, and a tour of Paris to appreciate the handling and comfort of the Nissan Leaf. After a well-deserved break at La Félicita, we headed for the Hotel Barn, a magnificent haven of peace just outside Paris. After a memorable dinner, we discovered the Nissan Leaf in a whole new light.
The next day, we headed for Pit Lane for a tour of the garage and the village before the Formula E race got underway. The apocalyptic weather didn’t help the drivers, who competed in uncontrolled skids and crashes in the pouring rain.
But now let’s talk about the new Nissan Leaf, the car we were able to test. A perfect city car, the LEAF is Europe’s best-selling 100% electric car. As you can see from the photos, this sleek model won us over, and remains the must-have electric car on the market.
For 2019, Nissan enriches the LEAF range. Now offered in two versions – LEAF 40 kWh and LEAF e+ 62 kWh, the Nissan LEAF sees its 2019 range evolve with more technology and connectivity.
A broader range: new finish and improved battery capacity
The Nissan LEAF range benefits from the introduction of a new generation of even more efficient batteries. From now on, the range is offered in two versions: the LEAF 40 kWh, which remains the heart of the range, and the LEAF e+ 62 kWh for customers looking for greater performance or longer range.
- The Nissan LEAF 40 kWh offers 150 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Its range reaches 270 km in the WLTP combined cycle and 389 km in the WLTP urban cycle.
- The Nissan LEAF e+ 62 kWh offers 217 hp and 340 Nm of torque. Its range reaches 385 km in the WLTP combined cycle and 528 km in the WLTP* urban cycle. The Nissan LEAF e+ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 s.
Since May, the Nissan LEAF range has been extended with the arrival of a new, even more accessible trim level, called First. The latter is dedicated in particular to non-taxable households, making the LEAF First accessible from €16,990, including battery and without compromising on equipment, thanks to Nissan’s doubling of the French government’s Conversion Bonus.
The Nissan LEAF is available in six trim levels: First, Acenta, Business, N-Connecta, Business + and Tekna. The Nissan LEAF e+ is available in three trim levels: N-Connecta, Business + and Tekna.
Larger screen, new connected services
The 2019 Nissan LEAF is equipped with the NissanConnect infotainment system. This has been completely renewed. The new NissanConnect comes as standard, from the First trim upwards. It features a new, enlarged 8″ screen with improved touch responsiveness. It features new TomTom functions such as real-time traffic information, weather, door-to-door navigation and new functions such as Satellite View and Google Street View. AndroidAuto and Apple Carplay are also included.
e-Pedal technology, available as standard across the Nissan LEAF range, allows you to accelerate, slow down, brake and stop using only the accelerator pedal. The brake pedal remains functional when needed. The enhanced responsiveness of e-Pedal creates an even smoother driving experience and offers maximum control to the driver.
Already chosen by more than one in two Nissan LEAF customers, ProPILOT assisted driving technology works in fast lanes. It controls steering, keeps the vehicle in its lane and maintains distance from the vehicle in front, even in traffic jams. If the vehicle in front stops, the Nissan LEAF will stop too. If the stop lasts less than three seconds, the Nissan LEAF will also restart automatically. This system makes driving easier and reduces driver stress and fatigue. Nissan ProPILOT technology works in fast lanes.
New connected services
Accessible from a smartphone, the NissanConnect Services app replaces the previous NissanConnect EV app. It provides vehicle location, remote climate control, charging management and remaining range, eco-driving history, headlights and horn.
The multiplication of the two-tone offer and the integration of a new color
A new body color has been added to the LEAF range: Topaz Blue, already offered on Nissan’s best-selling crossover, the Nissan QASHQAI.
Starting with the N-Connecta version, the 2019 Nissan LEAF range is offered with new two-tone body colors. The secondary color covers the roof and mirrors, and now also the side pillars.
The new two-tone combinations with Black Metallic roof, in addition to the existing Lunar White, are Lightning Grey, Squale Grey, Topaz Blue and Magnetic Red.
The Nissan LEAF is now also available in two new two-tone combinations: Black Metallic with Squale Grey roof, and Lunar White with Indigo Blue roof.
An even better-equipped Business version
Reserved for professionals, the BUSINESS trim includes new equipment such as 16″ alloy wheels, heat pump, black fabric upholstery, intelligent cruise control, leather steering wheel, front fog lights, new NissanConnect 8″, 6-speaker audio system and tinted rear and tailgate windows.
The Nissan LEAF starts at €35,400, excluding government subsidies.
