Chopard presents a limited edition Superfast model dedicated to the victory of the Porsche Motorsport team in the 2015 World Endurance Championship. The German racing team, for which Chopard has been “Official Timing Partner” since 2014, won its 17th title, triumphantly marking its grand return to endurance racing. A trophy won at the wheel of an exceptional car – the Porsche 919 Hybrid – whose aesthetic codes are echoed in the Superfast Porsche Motorsport 919 – limited victory edition model. Produced in just 17 examples, this racy chronograph, certified chronometer by the COSC, celebrates this victorious partnership.
Porsche Motorsport: 2015 World Champion
Since 2014, Chopard has accompanied Porsche Motorsport’s return to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). As the official timekeeper of this legendary team, the watch manufacturer is particularly proud to celebrate a successful 2015 and present a limited series in honor of this victorious season. Crowned “Constructors’ World Champion”, Porsche Motorsport lined up a series of podium finishes in 2015. Most impressive of all was its double victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last June, which will go down in history. This 17th World Championship title further strengthens Porsche’s historic record in endurance racing. In addition to this coveted trophy, the drivers finished the season at the top of the championship standings. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of the Chopard Group, enthusiastically notes these remarkable performances: “2015 was exciting and exceptional in more ways than one for Porsche, whose partner we are proud to be. A watch made for competition
Inspired by the Porsche 919 Hybrid that led the Porsche Motorsport team to the top step of the podium in the World Endurance Championship, the Superfast Porsche Motorsport 919 – Limited victory edition celebrates the performance and automotive passion shared by the two houses. Its imposing 45 mm-diameter steel case is water-resistant to 100 meters. Its bezel, equipped with a tachometer, is fashioned in 18-carat pink gold – as if to crown this victorious partnership – and secured by eight blackened screws. Its powerful lines enclose a precision mechanism with finishes reminiscent of racing car engines. The screw-down crown is adorned with a steering wheel overmolded in black rubber, while the grooved sides of the case recall the cooling fins of racing engines, to which the linear patterns of the dial and the openworked bridges of the movement respond. The silver dial is inspired by the German manufacturer’s famous metallic grey, its striations evoke the rear diffuser of the Porsche 919 Hybrid, and the “919” logo inscribed in a red rectangle on the hour counter is identical to the numbers of the Porsches competing in the WEC.
Precision Manufacture
Like a racing car, the body of the Superfast Porsche Motorsport 919 – limited victory edition houses an engine entirely designed, manufactured and assembled in Chopard’s workshops: the Chopard caliber 03.05-M. This remarkably precise self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with flyback function is chronometer-certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). The caliber and its openworked oscillating weight are visible through a sapphire crystal engraved with the words “Official Timing Partner Porsche Motorsport” and “Winner World Endurance Championship 2015”.
Combining precision and performance, this timepiece, available exclusively in Chopard boutiques, comes on a black rubber strap inspired by the racing “slick” tires that helped Porsche Motorsport win the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours. The bracelet ends in a polished steel folding clasp.
