A passion for fine mechanical engineering
The now inseparable link between Chopard and classic racing stems from Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s personal passion for classic cars. This attachment took concrete form in 1988, when the Manufacture became the partner and official timekeeper of the famous Mille Miglia. This endurance competition, which sees more than 400 classic automobiles compete each spring over a thousand-mile stretch between Brescia and Rome, criss-crosses the sublime Italian countryside. Described as “the most beautiful race in the world” by Enzo Ferrari, it is the source of inspiration for an eponymous watch collection created by Chopard in 1988, which has benefited from manufacture movements since 2015. A veritable benchmark in contemporary watchmaking, the Mille Miglia collection welcomes new models each year with virile, racy lines.
Deep black
Intensely black, the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black watch enriches this iconic collection by revisiting the characteristics of the classic cars that took part in the Italian race from 1940 to 1957. Covered in deep black on the case, dial and even the functional screws, it boasts a powerful allure and sporty presence suitable for any occasion. This contemporary timepiece, produced in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, features a robust 43 mm-diameter case in blackened steel with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment, an extremely resistant coating, topped by a bezel with graduated insert in black aluminum. Its short, streamlined lugs, designed to fit snugly around the wrist, offer optimum comfort and unique style, complemented by the integrated black rubber strap, inspired by the Dunlop tires of the 1960s and fastened by a DLC steel folding clasp. The screw-down caseback, guaranteed water-resistant to 100 meters, is secured by eight black PVD-treated screws and engraved with the words “Mille Miglia GTS Speed black”. Its tinted crystal, edged with a bright red gasket, reveals the Chopard movement, its engine finishing and its openworked oscillating weight.

While the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic Speed black is black, it also plays on contrasts. Its velvety matt black dial is illuminated by the flamboyant red of the second hand, the gasket around the minute track and the arrow-shaped Mille Miglia logo framing the date window. Painted with superluminova, the oversized Arabic numerals 6 and 12 stand out clearly against the dial.
