“When the peony blooms it stands tall and erect” – 2046
MASHAMA’s SS18 collection is an ode to the film 2046, written and directed by Wong Kar-wai. The film’s poetic quotations and romantic sci-fi aesthetic underscore MASHAMA’s vision this season.
The cybernetic mood is reflected in fabric patterns, irregular folds and prints, textiles and technological materials. Embracing a form of futuristic nostalgia, a gentle Chinese essence emerges, recognizable but changed. The qipao dress inspires not form, but pattern. The dudou top is transformed from undergarment to décolleté.
MASHAMA continues to challenge the way women wear suits, heralding a new uniform for the city. MASHAMA’s basic staple, combined with high-tech outerwear – a collaboration with KOLON SPORT – and contrasted by a soft, seasonal floral, creates an ideal modern silhouette.
In the MASHAMA tradition, fine stripe returns – men’s couture fabrics building strong lines. The season’s flower is never obvious, but its attitude is. Appearing in broken, neon, heat-embossed, digital and metallic lines, this flower proudly surrenders to innovation, ready to bloom.
MASHAMA is very grateful to have worked with STACCATO on the shoes for this show.>
