Meher Kakalia is a globe-trotter, a traveler who brings together the inspirations of her travels to create a unique and subtle collection, with the human touch and tradition at the heart of her work. Born in Karachi into a Parsi family, Meher flew to Europe at an early age and studied finance in London, where she worked successfully. Her creative nature taking over, she decided after a few years in the City to change worlds and express her taste for color and design. Her desire to return to the roots of her native culture led her to set up a workshop where she brought together artisans, shoemakers and embroiderers, combining their talents and know-how to reinterpret ancient techniques in trendy shoes and accessories. Known for the “Bizi Ballet” ballerina, she has since expanded her collection to include bags, booties and mules, all of which have made their way into fashionistas’ wardrobes. Meher Kakalia is now sold in prestigious outlets such as: Le Bon Marché (Paris), Charivari (Switzerland), Canary (USA).
Noble materials and precious details, the Meher Kakalia collection lets us rediscover the luxury of the skills of yesteryear. Meher uses embroidery techniques from the Mughal era, the time of the Taj Mahal princesses. Embroidered sandals, refined moccasins, colorful ballerinas and jeweled bags are made entirely of leather and sewn by hand. Textures are supple and soft to the touch, and comfort is the order of the day. The color harmonies are surprisingly subtle, while the beads, bangs and tassels create a slightly ethnic universe that’s instantly recognizable.
