NOURREDINE AMIR ON THE OFFICIAL HAUTE COUTURE FALL-WINTER 2018-2019 CALENDAR

Invited by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to take part in the Fall-Winter 2018-2019 Haute Couture Week shows in Paris, Nourredine Amir has achieved a double consecration. The Marrakech-based couturier becomes the first Moroccan and African designer to honor this essential fashion event. ART À PORTER Nourredine Amir’s couture collection, presented on Monday July 2 at 11 a.m. in the museum of the Institut du Monde Arabe, offers a new immersion into the heart of the fauna and the forest, whose contours and shapes are woven into all his creations. This season’s collection is rooted in the unchanging beauty of the seabed, where the delicate architecture of coral, the organic convolutions of shells, the spider-like slenderness of gorgonians and the evanescent fluidity of seaweed give life to a mermaid ball with a sculptural wardrobe that oscillates between a work of art and wearable art. Modern nereids, essentialist and liberated, these ocean nymphs slip into short or long dresses, pure and fuid, whose material effects draw their genesis from the vernacular traditions of Morocco. Masterfully reinterpreted by Nourredine Amir, they also determine the relief and shapes. From the neck to the ankle, emphasizing the décolleté, snaking around the hips or sublimating the entire silhouette, this meticulous work of ornamentation, associations and juxtapositions transgresses the classical rules of embroidery to create a striking collection of “sculpture dresses”, powerful and hieratic. REINVENTING MATERIALS

Demanding, wholehearted, faithful to the DNA of his work to the very end, Noureddine Amir knows no fashion, nor yields to the slightest trend. His fascinatingly contoured universe is one of free creation, one that flouts the weighty, the habitual, the conventional, where the trance of creation enables him to find the path he seeks through each of his creations. I start with the waist, around which the dress is created, and I never know when to stop,” explains the couturier. The shape is suggested by itself, it’s born from the material”. These raw, natural materials inspire his collections, often presented in reduced palettes representative of the beauty of nature. Carefully chosen, then tamed fl by fl, they undergo a veritable metamorphosis to befriend organza or silk chiffon. This is an art form in its own right, highlighting the richness of Moroccan craftsmanship and bringing it to life in a new way.
