UNDERWATER FESTIVAL AT LUX* SOUTH ARI ATOLL FROM SEPTEMBER 16 TO 22
When it comes to getting up close and personal with aquatic life, the Maldives remains the ideal
destination, with its 1,000 spectacular coral islands and ring-shaped coral reefs that
offer breathtaking views. The “Underwater” festival, held annually on the islet of
Dhidhoofinolhu where LUX* South Ari Atoll is located , is the annual meeting place for world leaders in
defense and marine research. At this event, participants can explore the most magnificent
diving spots, discover their history, try their hand at underwater photography using a
drone and discuss the measures taken and to be taken to protect marine fauna and raise awareness among the
public.
From September 16 to 22, 2018, the days at LUX* South Ari Atoll will be punctuated by a rich program
of activities as diverse as they are exciting: workshops, film screenings, conferences, but
above all, lots of diving. The aim is to bring together travelers, experts, divers,
environmentalists, activists and marine enthusiasts to share their experiences. The festival’s
international reputation attracts some of the industry’s biggest names, including a particularly eagerly-awaited guest
, diving legend, creator of “Project AWARE” and PADI President and CEO Drew Richardson.
Considered one of the most qualified diving specialists of his generation, American Drew
Richardson has built on his reputation to launch an innovative diving program around the world. With over
40 years’ service in marine and underwater safety and diver education, he has
also completed 5,000 dives on every continent. A committed environmentalist with a particular affinity
for the sea, he explains: “Between plastic waste, pollution and overfishing, there are a multitude
of problems to deal with, but it’s not too late. We can still reverse the curve and avoid a lot
of damage by working together to conserve and protect our marine resources!”.
As well as taking part in these exciting meetings, guests will also be able to enjoy the magic of
LUX* South Ari Atoll. Its eight incredible dining outlets and five bars make it a lively place
with a fascinating atmosphere. The hotel, with its 193 villas, is a mecca for marine conservation
, home to a PADI diving center and a marine biology center, among others.
