Col&MacArthur captures Pearl Harbor’s water to tell its story

Col&MacArthur plans to surprise and conquer the American market with the launch of its latest commemorative masterpiece, “Pearl 1941”.

Moments in history when time temporarily “freezes” to record events essential to human destiny have always inspired Col&MacArthur founder and director Sebastien Colen. His passion for historical facts and figures is the basis for the design and manufacture of unique watches that invite us “not to forget”.

1. Historical background and commemoration of 80 years since the attack

Every December 7, the American people commemorate the 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor perpetrated by the Japanese army in the wake of growing tension between the two nations.
At 7:48 a.m., the sound of the bomber approaching the island of Oahu (Hawaii) heralded a series of unexpected attacks.

This event was a turning point in history, and strongly marked America’s involvement in the Second World War. Following two raids that destroyed 2/3 of America’s aircraft and heavily damaged 17 battleships, President Roosevelt addressed Congress and designated the day “one that will live in infamy”.

80 years later, to honor the lives lost and contribute to collective remembrance, Col&MacArthur launches its new masterpiece “Pearl 1941”.

2. A highly symbolic timepiece combining elegance and precision

Like all the commemorative watches in the Col&MacArthur collection, “Pearl 1941” is a delight for lovers of symbolism and details, carefully chosen to remember what happened on that historic day:

– The hour markers on the dial correspond to the serial numbers of the smaller vessels lost in the attack.
– The names engraved on the rim of the case are those of the large ships hit during the attack, such as the Colorado, the Oklahoma…
– At 7:49 a.m., the Morse code S.O.S. – “Save Our Ship” – recalls the exact time of the first strike.
– The dial suggests the ship’s sonar, while the points scan the sonar.
– President Roosevelt’s famous quote of December 7, 1941 as the date that will be remembered as the day that will live in infamy is inscribed on the back of the watch, along with the island engraved in the center.

The most original feature of “Pearl 1941” is the water extracted from Pearl Harbor encapsulated between the two glasses. This symbolism is the memory of these waters, unalterable over time.

3. Combining the highest standards of quality and precision with European finesse

The watch is designed in Belgium and incorporates the precision of the Swiss movement in a 43mm case topped with sapphire crystal. Each watch can be personalized with an engraving and can be delivered anywhere, including its luxury packaging.

Approximate recommended worldwide price: 570 euros (including delivery and insurance).

4. Col&MacArthur’s expansion and past successes

Sébastien Colen, director and founder of Col&MacArthur, decided to put an end to his career as an expatriate in the oil and gas sector in Africa, to devote his time and energy to his passion: creating a luxury watch brand representing true human values, and inscribing our shared human history at the heart of his brand’s DNA. The first milestone in his success was the creation of the “Armistice 1918” watch.

A unique piece was presented to the American President in 2018 at the White House, to honor the valuable role of the United States at the end of the First World War. Other great moments in our History are celebrated by the brand and its timely launched collections: e.g. the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s disappearance or the 50th anniversary since man’s first step on the moon.

Col&MacArthur is constantly striving to become the benchmark watchmaker for commemorative watches, adding cachet and originality to its creations. Its advertising campaigns, TV interviews and features, excellent customer reviews and direct interaction with online communities are certainly, in addition to its undisputed quality and beauty, the ingredients of the brand’s success.

Today, Sébastien pursues his goal of transmission by offering highly symbolic watches with special features. He has just released the “Napoléon 1821” collection to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the emperor’s death. With “Pearl 1941” and other collections to come, Col&MacArthur aims to further conquer and charm the American market.
